In The Dream Poem by Raynette Eitel

In The Dream

In the dream your image
is just around the bend,

your finger beckoning
me to follow you.

The ground beneath us
is strewn with promises.

They flop about in mud
like fish out of water,

wishes set a side.
love songs crisp and dried.

Through murky shadows I follow,
knowing tentacles

will choke us as we try
to take a shallow breath.

And so I follow you
To death of all our dreams.
