In The Rhythm I Fall Because I Be Wild. Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

In The Rhythm I Fall Because I Be Wild.

In the rhythm I fall because I be wild.

I saw centuries creased and stifled.

And the lung of the sea was nibbled by fish.

Assailed from all sides I bid to be a ghost.

And I bid but at first failing.

And crowded in murky waters circled crocodiles.

And fighting my scream in the night.

To no avail yet I shall be ghost.

Not by qualification, but by default, yes.

And on the throne sits a Sphinx grinning malicious.

And I shouted: 'Grin not - what I fail by my own I will get by default'
