In The Waters Beauty Glides Poem by Emmanuel George Cefai

In The Waters Beauty Glides

In the waters
Beauty glides
In the waters
Draws in tides
In the waters
Lengthwise hides
In the waters
Hoots in caves
In the waters
Gurgling raves
In the waters
Beauty thrives
In the waters
Beauty hides!

Three times Beauty is invoked performing some action, namely gliding, thriving, hiding. I don't know how far to take the connotations of these words. Gliding fits the waterscape in which the poem is set. Thriving contains the waterscape, but also stretches outside the poem to everywhere Beauty is manifest. And then the biggest surprise - Beauty hides. But why? These three seemingly neutral statements gives the poem an unexpected dimension, call it a wrinkle in an otherwise untroubled scene.
