In Your Garden Poem by Lee McGregor

In Your Garden

Rating: 3.8

I'm taking my time
As I move through the space,
To take it all in
Feel the pulse of this place,
A sensing of something
I long to embrace,
One more journey
About to begin....

The feeling is calming
All freshness and new,
A refuge of peacefulness
Passing on through,
A spacious relaxing
And welcoming view,
I breathe out...
Then draw it all in.

I open my eyes
And my heart and my mind
I'm listening receptive
What world will I find?
The person who lives here
Warm sensitive kind
Is colouring all I perceive.

Meander down back
Past the old galvo shed
Litter fills gutters
The track where I tread,
Eager I am now
To spot what's ahead,
Stroll on...
I'm crunching the ground!

I walk over gravel
Emerging to spy
The gnarly old native
The Grapefruit nearby,
I gaze on the worn rear gate
With a sigh...
The veggie patch
Needing a hand.

I'm drawn to the lawn
An expanse of lush green
A wide open clearing
A warm sunny scene,
My mind starts to wander
To what may have been,
I loosen my grip
On the now....

Was there laughter and fun
On a bright summer's day,
Did you roll on the grass
Let your cares drift away?
Maybe turn on the sprinkler
And run through the spray
In the scorching hot February sun.

Did the family play games
On this spongy soft spread,
Maybe lay on the blades
Watch the clouds overhead?
Did you kiss and make love
On a smooth downy bed,
Fall asleep
Til the afternoon cool?

Pockets of mystery
And towering tall trees
The sway of the branches
With to and fro ease,
The whispering sounds
Of leaves in the breeze,
Returning me
Gently to earth.

The tangle I find
A delight to my eyes
Everything draped
In a shabby disguise!
The twisty old ti-trees
The Maple surprise
Call out for a prune
Here and there.

Wherever I turn
Garden beckons to me,
'Come closer unveil...
Bare...my...for...mer beauty,
There's so much more here
That you still cannot see,
Take time now
Move near if you dare! '

Hardy rough hedging
The screen on the fence
Needing some shaping
This natural defence,
Plants near the house
Are all overly dense
Consuming the path
Down the side.

Bushy big branches
Of shrubs closing in
Blocking out sunlight
The darkening within,
This landscape needs taming
To sculpture and thin,
I'm gladdened
The chance in my hands!

Was your garden of joy
A retreat where you cared
A bit sad now neglected
Those efforts you spared?
Was it no more in focus
As life you despaired
When your vulnerable world
Came apart?

Reflecting perhaps
What you felt deep inside,
Disconnection and emptiness
Mirrored outside,
Something once passionate
Curled up and died
When hope let you go,
Wrenched away...

Perhaps I can change things
To help start anew
Add my own touch
Bring a fresh shapely view,
A different perspective
Diminish the blue,
Inspire and entice you along.

Revive life and spirit
Expose what's concealed
To bring back some magic
Let all be revealed!
This wonderful garden
Just wants to be healed,
To draw Nature's force
And be strong!

Could we add favourite plantings
Of things that delight,
May we work this together
Share all our insight?
Could we travel a while
And our visions unite?
In your garden,
My heart starts to sing....
