Fulfillment Denied Poem by Lee McGregor

Fulfillment Denied

To sink in the mire,
A cur-sed desire
To quench the unquenchable,
To grasp and claw
At the invisible, intangible
The wretched and provocatively
Sensual,
Fulfillment my only goal,
Sacrificing sameness
To satisfy the soul.

The burning is boundless.
Blackening shards
Of shattered self respect
Are all that remain
In my quest for connection,
Of union with the lustful one,
The beautiful one,
The one who promises peace
From the wanting
The unending suffering
And craving.

The haunting is torture,
My quest beyond adventure.
This all consuming
Mind possessing fracture
Between calm and chaos
Must find resolution,
For without peace
The solution
Can only be death,
A slow simmering extinction....
