Incomprehensible Responsibilities Poem by Dakota Ellerton

Incomprehensible Responsibilities

I awoke to the impatience of my thoughts.
My arms had frozen to my sides,
and I could feel tears drying on my cheek.
I shook around as my breath shortened,
flailing every limb in my mind -
I tried hopelessly to scream.
My heart raced three times as fast,
and my body began to quiver.
I stopped and glanced at the hazzy mess next to me.
I was laying in warm blood.
I could not believe the circumstances,
and closed my eyes to count to ten.
The impermanence of my situation condemed my movement,
and as I had, the world stopped.
My obligations and fears had manifested in my mind,
what I believe, is what is.
I turned my head,
and saw medication scattered on the floor next to me.
The incomprehensible responsibilities,
are eating me away.
