Incubus Poem by Eric Joseph Lopez

Incubus

Rating: 3.2

Sitting at the sea shore holding an empty bottle,
To drunk to move or stand.
From a distance I see it coming,
Over the ocean with a dark reflection.
Dark clouds hovering,
It’s coming straight at me moving fast.
Thunder and lightening,
Flashes across the sky shinning like glass.

The sound it makes,
Sends shivering down my spine.
The coldness atmosphere,
Leaves me perplex but am running out of time.
Turn over begun to crawl,
Looking behind every chance I get.
As if I’m in a Tom & jerry cartoon,
Sneaking away but it’s going to get me I bet.

Like a monster giving hard chase,
Closing in on me.
Was able to get my self up then started to run,
If I make it m giving up alcohol to start drinking hot tea.
Oh Lord….the…lightening,
It then strike a plane.
I stop in silent watching it drift,
As it falling from the sky like heavy rain.

No one can survive such a thing I told my self,
Then heard the thunder roared in triumph.
Running again like a scared dog with it’s tail between the leg,
While looking back at the huge flames so violent.
I stop at a near by store,
Open the door ask everyone if they seen.
All standing there paying no attention to me as if am invisible,
Tossing…turning…scream…jump….huh whew it was just a dream.

I loved this. I was so caught up in the horror of it. We humans attempt to deal with things in sleep that we don't think we can handle while in the waking state. It seems quite intelligent when you think about it. Terrific writing. I could feel the storm stalking me too (my personal bugaboo is TORNADOES, lol)
