India, Consumed By Covid Poem by Nisha Butterflydreams

India, Consumed By Covid

Our country drowns in tears,
Consumed by covid nightmares
Around the clock hospital staff,
And volunteers sweat
Treatments, vaccines, their lives at threat
And some men toil to rest the departed
As pyres burn endlessly,
what wars have seen
The invisible enemy is mercilessly devoted
Haunting desperate gasps for air,
choking smell of despair...

The world watches in horror
our country reeling under pressure
We're powerless, numb, no say
Awaiting the light of day

We welcomed with open arms
The new normal, a bit carelessly
We're back to the beginning
But this beginning too will end.
