India’s 65th Independence Day Celebrations Poem by Dr John Celes

India’s 65th Independence Day Celebrations

Sixty-five years free, we’ve been;
Lot of changes, we have seen;
Past struggles are evergreen;
Is India, an improved scene?

Freedom got through sacrifice;
Non-violence was prime device;
Freedom’s cost, hefty a price –
Is forgotten in a trice?

Life is good, can be better;
Indians are a trend-setter;
Yet, brethren end in fetters;
Things happen in mere letters.

Lot more things ought to be done;
Crimes have become almost fun;
Militants roam with own guns;
Food wastage occurs in tons.

Prices have to be contained;
Peace and amity maintained;
Love of neighbour, be retained;
Perseverance, be sustained.

Future appears quite rosy;
People can live much happy;
Leaders must be less cosy;
Lives of common man, sappy.

Corruption must be stamped out;
There must be no room for clout;
Workers need to work, not shout;
Life will improve without a doubt.

Jai Bharat! Jai Bharatiya!
