Insomnia (Dark Place) Poem by Portia Lane

Insomnia (Dark Place)

Rating: 4.5

In the depths of solitude
Disquieting thoughts
Force weary eyes
To wait hopelessly open
For relief unfounded

Chaos is liberated
And spins a web of confusion

Peace obscures itself
In the shadow of mayhem

Apprehension is released
From the cell that optimism once guarded

Optimism now shivers
As it lays helplessly in the claws of sorrow

Overwhelming pessimism lays traps of uncertainty
Victimizing innocent belief

What remains is the snare that easily entangles:
Lack of faith

Unforeseen and undetected
Like cancer
It spreads from mind to heart
Ending in fatality
Unless treated swiftly
