Inspiration Poem by Lloyd Savage

Inspiration

Pick up the pen and write
The poem must be written tonight;
Like the songbird in the breeze
Her rhythm there must flow with ease;
Or else no inspiration there belongs
For the breeze has come
But the songbird gone!

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This poem came to me likely some time after seeing a bird on a limb in the wind that was shaking it. I try to tell folks not to try to compose poetry rather to try to get into a frame of mind whereby you listen for the words that come floating along. If you can learn to hear this inspiration that comes by you generally can capture it. Again catching that first line is most important too in order to succeed with the whole poem. I knew one poet who wrote for days, and never stopped then one day she could not hear the words coming anymore. I think that shows how atuned one can be to such inspirations.
