Integrity (Character Or Reputation?) Poem by Luke Easter

Integrity (Character Or Reputation?)

Integrity is a word that’s often used,
It’s also one that is very easily abused,
One of the greatest problems in the world today,
Too many people go back on what they say.

When things run smoothly all is honky dory,
As no one feels the need to panic or worry,
Let a little turbulence change the path of a plane,
Suddenly everyone except you is now to blame.

Matthew 5: 37, let your yes be yes and your no be no,
No matter in what direction the wind blows,
When any promise from your mouth is heard,
Others can count on you keeping that word.

James 5: 16, a righteous prayer is powerful & effective,
And with your promise you can’t be selective,
The giving of your word is like signing a contract,
When John Hancock is written you shouldn’t take it back.

Even if you find fault with what the other parties do,
While their word is tainted, it was still sworn upon by you,
Be diligent and don’t commit without a thorough research,
Deals and friendship easily break-up when someone gets hurt.

Why make a promise with no intention of it being true,
Then wonder why others never come through for you,
It’s called honor when giving and keeping your word,
If that’s not the case don’t let that lie be heard.

Whenever you move your lips forming words to speak,
Let them be strong and forceful, not meaningless and weak,
Ecclesiastes 10: 1, remember whose reputation is now at stake,
Better have a good excuse, not showing up or being late.

Are you currently in possession of something you do not own?
Anything you’ve taken, tools borrowed or money from a loan?
Whatever the desperate situation, while hunting others down,
Now that it’s time to return the payment, can you be found?

Especially when confrontations could have been prevented,
Before promises or documents are signed, sealed and cemented,
Whatever the situation, everyone is looking or waiting to see,
As the dust settles, if you’re the person you claim to be.

Honor is a bond that’s created when one gives their word,
A nod, handshake, signature, not just as the spoken is heard,
It’s extremely difficult for one climbing from consuming fire,
Followed everywhere being branded with the label of liar.

Accepting and promoting compliments rained down on you,
Knowingly aware, without giving credit where credit is due,
Responsible for a problem, refusing to stand and take the blame,
However, when kudos are given, being first to add your name.

Reputation is what people say but character is who you really are,
Do you shine continually like the sun or fade like a shooting star?
Which of these without wavering will define your complete history,
And facing God on judgment day can you honestly claim Integrity?
