I was dozing in the park today,
dreaming of what might come my way,
when suddenly with great dismay,
thoughts of yesterday came to prey.
My young children, my beautiful wife,
and me in the prime of my life.
They made me feel special, important and strong,
assured that life could never go wrong.
Those days are gone now, my children are grown,
my body feels weak, tired and worn.
Then as I begin to fall into the dark,
I see in the distance a bright new spark.
As if dragging me out into the light,
thoughts of my grandchildren, so young and sprite.
I realize then, whatever the future may bring,
while they are around, my heart will always sing.
