Inverse Reality Poem by Nicholas Moss

Inverse Reality

The room seems familiar, but somehow different
It's as if I had awoken upside down
The bed seems larger
the world is in fish eye
A question dances in my head
Where am I?

Hello, I call down the hall
Is anyone there?
There's no response, just the cold silent air
The hallway feels cold but not frozen
I feel cold but not frozen
My neck aches and my head hurts
Where am I?

The hallway seems to twist
The light seems to bend
I start down the hallway
I'm moving forwards
Yet my feet are walking backwards
What on earth is going on?

The shadows are disproportionate
Confusion runs thick like a syrup
The ground seems to ripple
The atmosphere feels off
Where am I?

I'm feeling in the darkness
Looking for a exit
A hole in the wall
Maybe that will give me some insight
To where I am

I think I've found the exit
It looks pleasant and calm
I'm going through to have a check
Just to make sure
Wish me luck

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
So I have ADD and I take a medication for it to keep me focused. But one of the side effects is a lack of appetite, and when I get hungry and don't realize it, the world seems strangely surreal. I don't hallucinate and there's nothing severe but I sure do feel confused, I get headaches and my joints become rather sensitive, plus I get a bit light headed and chilly. And that's how I know that I haven't had enough to eat in a day. This poem is an attempt to embody the confusion and aching light headed feeling of the malnutrition.
