Invisible Sin… Poem by Betty Jo Hilger

Invisible Sin…

Beside the still waters rivers run deep
Threatening to cover the sea
With furious attention,
With outrageous fear
Directing, dissecting us year after year…

And tweaking our strings
Fine tuning our movement
Choreographed, every step in control
The maelstrom within is kept hidden from view
And breathing goes on, if only we knew…

Self-focused…
Self-centered…
Self-seeking we wander…
As puppets deluded… false… feigning we’re free
Unknowing, indentured, yet serving a master
Encroaching, invasive, of iniquity…

Beside the still waters our brothers trudge lost
In danger…
In peril…
In great jeopardy…
Excusing ourselves of complacent indifference
Denying that help could be needed…
from me…
