Invite Poem by Za7ra Sulaiman

Invite

Oh, how I yearn to finally be loved, To be cherished gently, not merely dreamed of.

To be asked about my day, To know someone truly wants me to stay.

To have him admire the way my hair falls, And think of me fondly through seasons and walls.

To know that he cares, And carries my heart with the weight that it bears.

But all these boys chased my body and face, Never caring enough to learn what I embrace.

They wanted my curves, Not my thoughts or my words.

And I can't even say that the blame isn't shared, For I let them come close while hoping they cared.

I invited them in, believing somehow, That one would see all of me, here and now.

Yet they left me the same as the nights before, Still yearning for love, and a little bit more.
