Iran/Persia And the "Great Satan" Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Iran/Persia And the "Great Satan"

A land of old, of kings and might,
Where ancient stories took their flight.
Cyrus the Great, a name so grand,
Built empires across the land.

Then came the words of faith anew,
Islam's embrace, a different hue.
But Persian heart, and tongue so dear,
Lived on, through all the passing year.

New dynasties, a changing tide,
With powers from afar to guide.
To Iran, the name did shift,
A modern nation, a mystic gift.

Then shadows fell, a hidden hand,
From distant shores, across the sand.
A leader chosen, freely planned,
Was cast aside, by foreign command.

A Shah returned, with iron rule,
Supported by an outside school.
His reign was long, with heavy cost,
Until the old ways were quite lost.

Then came the cry, a people's plea,
A revolution, wild and free.
The clergy rose, with zealous call,
And ancient foes, now stood so tall.

The 'Great Satan, ' a name was cast,
A bitter feud, designed to last.
With sanctions tight, and wary eye,
A troubled peace, beneath the sky.
