Iraq In All Its Glory Poem by Joyce Hemsley

Iraq In All Its Glory

Iraq will survive. Iraq will recover,
with ruling democracy like none other.
As the end of 2009 draws near,
a brand new hierarchy will calm all fear.

After King Faisal's assassination,
came the monarchy's termination...
and later, presided Saddam Hussain
But his 'last amen' had been ordained.

Iraq and Iran have unique fascination,
antiquities, finance and population.
There grows a garden of eden sweet,
where the Tigris and Euphrates meet.

A Gate leads to the Processional Way
designed with lions on display...
This is Babylon's pink brick array.
I ponder, is this wonder still there today?

The problem remains of our soldiers leaving,
saying goodbye to a country that's free.
And one more war will be written down
in the historic archives of renown.

(But it is not yet known when this will be)
