Is It Time? Poem by Justin Woods

Is It Time?

Rating: 5.0

An old man lays there,
With his family gathered round.
He wonders if it's time to rest,
And be buried in the ground.

He sifts through his memories,
Like leaves fallen in the wind.
The good times and the bad,
Have all led up to this, the end.

He remembers the heartache,
Of a child passed away.
Long before their time,
Early in their day.

His sadness and sorrow,
He doesn't want repeated.
Gifts of good memories and smiles,
Those are what are needed.

Before he takes his final breath,
And slips into the night.
He wants to make sure all is well,
That he has left everything right.

So he asks his son at his side,
'Is it time to die? '
'It's okay dad, ' he answers,
and then begins to cry.

The old man smiles and says,
Bring everybody up close.
I've got a few last words,
Before I bid you adios.

Time brings joy and sorrow,
And I've had my share of both.
Sometimes it may seem bitter,
But it always comes with growth.

My time has now passed by,
And to not follow would be a crime.
I leave you with one challenge,
Go live! Now it's your time.
