Island Flower Power Poem by Nneka Edwards

Island Flower Power

I'm sporting a huge ball afro
With a hibiscus crowning my hair
I'm strutting my stuff in bell-bottom pants
With hipster pink-floral flair

I keep an afro comb handy
I'm always fixing and patting my do
As I walk by I hear in the trees
Birds twitter, "She mighty cool! "

The coconut trees sway to reggae
And calypso makes them dance
I just sway my hips as I pass on by
Island palms I sashaying romance

I'm wearing designer dark shades
They so ‘on' the sun steps aside
I just calmly tilt my head and pose
Sunbeams sigh, "She pretty fly! "

As I sip on my coconut-milk drink
With a flower framing the straw
You know I got on my platform heels
And this cocktail sure dig what it saw!

A bright scarf flung over-shoulder
Patterned pink, gold and olive green
As I lounge on the grass for a picnic
The park says, "Mmmm! Mighty fine indeed! "

I'm a Caribee belle with jive, boy
Girlfriend got pride attitude
I know who I am and love who I be
Hey! I'm pure flower-power dude!
