Isolation Poem by Shannon Atherton

Isolation

Rating: 4.0

Feeling alone, friends stay away
You spent time on your own today
The sky is blue and shows how you feel
Not even sure if this is real
You need to move on but with no where to go
You'll be stood on your own again tomorrow
Now there's just silence where you used to speak
It's the same atmosphere week after week
Each day is harder, the time drags by
It hurts when you don't get so much as a hi
Being this lonely is too much to bear
But don't say a word - why would she care?
Speak to yourself because no one else will
It's been a long time but your thoughts start to spill
She has deserted you; there's nothing here
You must have diseases cause she won't come near
You make excuses, the truth hurts too much
Your skin is sweaty and clammy to touch
You're close to a breakdown, you can't take much more
You're feeling worse now than you've ever before
You can't understand what it is you've done wrong
It must have been bad cause it's been so long
Since she even hugged you or showed you she cares
She's broken your heart and you cry lonely tears

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This is about a period of time when I was so low, and all I wanted to do was speak to my best friend. But she seemed to be oblivious that I existed, and I've never felt so lonely.
