It Is As If Everything Has Been Interrupted Poem by Shalom Freedman

It Is As If Everything Has Been Interrupted

It is as if everything has been interrupted
And nothing goes on as it should and always has
And all of us startle and fumble and do not know where to go
And surrounding us a devastation
We cannot even begin to dream to escape
And we do not know who and where we are anymore
And we are afraid and lost
And praying for some kind of return
That will be our salvation
Though we feel
As we try to move again
That we really do not know what to do at all
And how we will ever possibly escape
The prison our world suddenly has become
Without ever asking us.
