It's A Pathetic Charade Poem by Raymond Farrell

It's A Pathetic Charade

It's a pathetic charade
That we have all been
Forced to participate in
Since the day we drew
Our first breath
The ideal of modern liberalism
That has been foisted
On an unsuspecting public
Throughout modern history
Is underpinned by the basic idea
That the people
Must be marginalized
It is bolstered by
A condescending attitude
That the common people are
Far too ignorant
To run their own affairs
Without government intervening
It is therefore
Best
To keep their attention
Away from critical matters
By keeping them busy
Consuming and pursuing
Ever changing fads and fashions
Better yet
New vices and forms of entertainment
Soon
The whole merry-go-round
Is going to come to
A screeching halt
And then
If the people realize
How they have been duped
By the politicians and
Their mouth pieces
In the media
There will not be
Enough lamp posts
On the face of the earth
From which
To hang these people
And I will be happy
To chip in for the rope
If the time comes.
