It's Over Poem by david lessard

It's Over

It does not matter, that you no longer care for me,
It does not matter, what you may say or do;
I was in prison for too long, now I am free,
And as far as you and I go, we're now through.

I can't repeat the past again, I did it once,
I can't give you the love I thought was true;
I was foolish to want you, consider me a dunce,
I'm in need of someone else and something new.

I cannot wish you the best, you've taken that away,
I can only forgive you as you must forgive me;
There is no point in wanting me to stay,
We must put aside the veils, so we can see.

There is no satisfaction in our holding on,
There is no happiness in the place that we now dwell;
What we once had, we now realize it's gone,
And we must reach for heaven, not continue in this hell.

It matters not if you hate me and berate me,
I apoligize for everything I've ever done;
But I'll not bargin or offer up a plea,
I do not want to fight, but I'll not run.

The papers from the court will say it's past,
It's finished, officially, the reationship is through;
We can wonder then, how come it didn't last,
But I wouldn't waste my time...if I were you.
