It Tugs At My Heartstrings - Poem by Emily Wimetal

It tugs at my heartstrings
and tears up my soul
to see this day has come
when towards me you turn so cold.
Strangers we were
before the night we met
the three years that followed that
i will never forget.
How lucky i was
to myself i thought
that i finally found true love
but in reality i did not.
You are treating me now
as if i don't exist
yet the odd times you say hello
i just cannot resist.
I know the memories of what we had
are no longer in your mind
that makes it so much easier
for you to treat me unkind.
I should have known better
from the very start
that the love i feel for you
would only break my heart.
You have another's love now
new wings to fly
you have no need for me anymore
cause to you i have died..
