It's So Easy To Slip Back Poem by Mohammad Younus

It's So Easy To Slip Back

It's so easy to slip back
Into my old ways,
But for the divine's grace.
Sweet melodies won't turn sour,
And the mind's tricks lose their play.

I retreat into my true self,
Setting back on the shelf
My false, beguiling mask.
I focus on my authentic self,
To align with divine reality.

I wasn't meant to fit in this world,
To blend and mingle with
The spirits of darkness.
I am light, though eclipsed
From my own essence true.

The divine light soothes me,
Filling the holes and cracks
In the vessel of my being,
Reassuring me: I am whole.

I cannot hide my true self.
Some sonar emits
From the depths of my being,
Calling me to dive deep within,
To stop swimming on the surface.

I ask myself: Fear not the abyss.
Dive deep to see in your sea—
Who am I?
Connected to illusion,
You were never meant to be.

If you can see the light divine,
Only then will you find
Your true essence.
