Jaana-I Poem by Imran Yousuf

Jaana-I

Do you mewl too Jaana in the cold nights
under the blanket with no words to whisper?

Did you too fall in love, forget the names and titles?
Did you too name the stone 'gold' you wear in the
index finger of your right hand?

In this absence, I see hundreds of faces, known
and unknown; saffron faces, wet eyes like me
and maybe like yours- I don't know.

Jaana grief makes one broken, I am too-
I no more hear the soft melodies you once
whispered in my ear.

Last night I saw your face in dream like Farhad
did on the mountain, it was glowing like
a dewdrop on the rose petal.

Once I had thousands of words, now my tongue
is silent. Jaana- I am left in nothingness, neither
I find any evidence of my existence nor the traces
of your dust, it has given restlessness to my longings.

Jaana I have nothing to say now but you too
be silent, keep your grief close to your
broken heart and sleep.
