Janis Joplin Poem by Tor Magnor Solvang

Janis Joplin

She walked upon the wooden stage,
A wild bird in a velvet cage.
With hair of fire and voice of sand,
The bravest soul in all the land.

She sang of love that left too soon,
Beneath the cold and lonely moon.
She drank the blues and poured out soul,
To make the broken spirit whole.

A feather boa, a raspy cry,
She lived beneath a stormy sky.
She gave it all, she held back none,
Until her race on earth was run.

Though silent now the music plays,
She shines through all the passing days.
A rose of thorns, a jagged light,
Still dancing in the middle of the night.
