A special name, from ages past,
Four letters old, forever to last.
YHWH, a sound so deep and true,
'I am who I am, ' forever new.
He makes things happen, brings them to be,
His mighty power, for all to see.
In holy books, it's found with care,
Seven thousand times, his name is there.
Once spoken loud, a sacred sound,
Now often hushed, on holy ground.
With added vowels, a modern way,
Jehovah or Yahweh, we might say.
Though 'Lord' we hear in many a place,
His proper name, a tender grace.
Some hold it dear, with fervent plea,
The true name of God, for you and me.
Others recall, a past so bright,
Using it less, in daily light.
But still it stands, a truth untold,
His name, more precious than all gold.
