Jesus Wept Poem by Richard Randolph

Jesus Wept

They insist every fetus is a child,
but they don't mind putting immigrant children in cages along the border for a while.
Or separating them from the parents, they're criminals after all.
If the poor are unhappy, they can't understand why.
Why can't they be more like us? they ask with a sigh.
If they don't have insurance, whose fault is that?
We can't take care of everyone, it's as simple as that.
I'm afraid of all these poor people, I hear them say.
They're dirty and vile. Can't someone make them go away?
I know what we'll do: let's build a great wall,
but then who'll do the dishes and our lawns, after all?
It's so complicated, I can't think, but at least I can pray:
Please dear lord, make these poor people go away!
This is America, after all, where everyone's white,
let's send in ICE to kill the people we don't like.
If Christ were on earth, I know what he'd say,
more guns, more killing, it's the only way.
