Jim's Dream Poem by Francis Duggan

Jim's Dream

Jim to me this story did tell
Rover the dog came to him for to bid him farewell
Jim patted his head and Rover licked his hand
A dog's unconditional love not hard to understand
Old Rover so kind in his gentle way
To Jim had been a good friend for many a day
A black and white border collie one of a faithful breed
So loving and devoted and clever indeed
Jim told me the story his eyes dimmed with tears
Of the faithful old dog that he had known for years
In the gray of the dawn just before sunrise
He woke from his dream with tears in his eyes
And sadly only in memory he pats his dog's head
As Rover his friend and companion is dead.
