Johannes Vermeer

After race-horses were called after painters,
they were called after poets too;
and after philosophers three.

After teaching the English to say 'Goethe' correctly,
pedantic race-callers taught
(who would have thought?)
them not to say 'Nietzsche' 'Nitschky'.
