Johnny Twomey Poem by Francis Duggan

Johnny Twomey

In Rathduane near Ballydaly where he had lived for decades of years
He will be remembered with sadness and he will be remembered with tears
He was such a likeable fellow and of worries he did seem carefree
The one and only Johnny Twomey an honourable fellow was he.

He and his wife Mary they raised a big family the Rathduane Twomeys they are known far and wide
Beyond the borders of Sliabh Luachra and Duhallow to them their old home Countryside
They surely will miss their dad Johnny in their lives his passing leaves a huge hole
But about death there's nothing we can do since death is beyond our control.

His bones rest in St Mary's in Millstreet where many a good person lay
Life is short and death is forever that seems such a sad thing to say
Perhaps Johnny was in his eighties a long life as human years go
But he is one who will be remembered since he was such a nice man to know.

Johnny Twomey was well liked by many and with great fondness we recall
A man who was good to his neighbours and a good human being over all
His spirit lives in Ballydaly though the breath of life from him has gone
A generous and kind hearted person and good memories of him will live on.
