Journey Poem by Lorin Addy Garringer

Journey

You were my Egypt;
Place of prosperity,
Comfort, awaking, wisdom.

Then my breath on
Your heart frightend you.
Only those who tread on
Tender affections afflict selfish fear.

So my trust was beat upon by
The hands I kissed,
My declaration of love
Scorned by
The lips I served.

Like Pharaoh you released me
Into the sands of solitude. But
God brought forth
Water from His rock.

And thinking back
From the promised land,
I know only my Egypt
Was tied tight enough
To teach his slave-

Sip the milk,
Lick the honey.
