July 3 Poem by Frank Avon

July 3

For a whole month
I'd been wordless

the pain and numbness
of chest and shoulders

invading my nerve
occupying it

denigrating
the urge

to ejaculate
words

until a goldfinch
amidst sunflowers

loosened
the tie that bound me

and let fly
the surge.
