Jungle Bird Poem by Ndina Kamaro Muofhe

Jungle Bird

Tamed in the heart of the concrete
Her story remains a secret lost on pages' faces
Her name is shoved beneath rugs of egos
She flew the sky and took pride in the jungle
Her joy was sabotaged by winds from west lands
They blew her nest
And it was swallowed in these winds
She is forced to smile
So, she could be fed crumbs from the concrete
In the jungle she ate what watched her wellness
Now, it's her soul that frowns shadowed by a smiling face

Her broken wings sow shame in her beating heart
Before the eyes of the mirror,
She dies to erase what distinguishes her from the rest
She is just trying to fit with the walls of her cell

Jungle bird, fallen into traps of pain
She tries to walk tall searching for her lost heart beats
She swallows the tears into her bellies for,
No ear hears her cries
Marked a sinner in the land where fiends rule
She is starved and stripped off her dignity

Jungle bird, tamed in the light
Darkness, she was taught to hate
Yet, they light keeps on clipping her wings
