Just Another Day Poem by Paul Burt

Just Another Day

Eye contact is always difficult for me
The shades I wear is not because I am anti-social
but because I feel naked without them
Sensory overload of input can trigger a meltdown that I can't control at times
People turn around and be like 'oh it's a tantrum'
But they'll never know what it is like to live with what I have

Thoughts race through my mind 1000 miles per hour
Overthinking things to the point where it drives me crazy
It's hard to not take things too personally and misunderstand situations so easy
When you have a mind like mine

Emotions amplified x10 when events happen
I can feel overwhelming happiness or sadness more then others would

What I have makes me feel like an outsider
What I have is not a disease there is no cure for what I have
People who don't understand always stigmatize and discriminate those who are like me

But I'm still human I still have ambitions I'm just wired with a different kind of brain.
Just another day for me living with Autism not everyone with it is the same
