Just Got To Be Me Poem by Rodney Sykes

Just Got To Be Me

Lost in an ocean of make believe
Words, are elusive, got to be
Scatter to the wind, make them free
The blank page crumples, just like me

Where to today, my keyboard asks
I'll take your dream and break it apart
Keys confused, just going to fast
Back to the beginning, I say at last

Delete, delete, delete

My words are awry. Take them away
Help me climb the mountain today
Clouds obscure, too dark to see
I'll crawl in a hole, just want to be

I'll die a little, but just for a while
Would be better if taken with a smile
Perhaps a snooze and a pretty dream
And when I wake and hear the scream

A glass of wine to numb my brain
And a second to help, I'm going insane
The hole can wait, shit from the drain
No ideas left, my poetic shame

The keyboard explodes in utter disgust
Money is free in the cesspit of love
The is no poet alive that you can trust
The decay society, the dead turn to dust

But not to give me the hit that I need
Just water in the soup, nothing is free
The time taken would then fly away
And tomorrow will come sooner if I pray

The ocean swallows my make believe
Choke on the words that have go to be
Scatter to the wind, to make them free
The blank page crumples, just like me
