Just Once Poem by Sherri Anderson

Just Once

Take one step forward
Now take two steps back
Was it something that happened
Was it something I lacked?

Spiraling in circles,
Entangled in an web,
A line not meant to be crossed,
Was it something I said?

Took down the boundaries,
Climbed over the walls,
What was once truth now a secret,
Were we both in the wrong?

Unspoken words,
Knowledge can’t be exposed,
Something special was lost,
A friendship so easily disposed.

No more conversations,
Left heavily upon empty hearts,
Both knew it was wrong,
It should never have had to start.

Is an apology all that’s left?
Is there nothing left to say?
Once a friendship so strong
Disappears the next day.

Approach your future carefully,
Leave all mistakes in your passed
I promise I’ll never forget you
I’ll make the memories last.
