Just The Voice Poem by Loyd C Taylor Sr

Just The Voice

He came preaching! He came preparing!
He came pointing men to Christ.
He came prophesying! He came baptizing!
He came bringing men to Christ.

He appeared in the wilderness,
answering the heavenly call.
He claimed no earthly honor,
He was just the voice, that's all!

He denied he was the Messiah,
or prophet Elijah of old!
He was loud, he was different,
He spoke truth in words so bold!

He came preaching! He came preparing!
He came pointing men to Christ.
He came prophesying! He came baptizing!
He came bringing men to Christ.

He cried, 'Make straight the way of the Lord,
and take stock of all you do! '
He cried, 'Repent, God's kingdom is near
And salvation is here for you! '

He cried, 'Fill those sinking valleys
and bring those mountains low.
Make straight the crooked paths
and smooth rough places you go.'

He came preaching! He came preparing!
He came pointing men to Christ.
He came prophesying! He came baptizing!
He came bringing men to Christ.

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
This was written about John the Baptist, known as the Voice of one crying in the wilderness. I hope you enjoy it. Here is the Bible passage: (3) And he came into all the country about Jordan, preaching the baptism of repentance for the remission of sins; (4) As it is written in the book of the words of Esaias the prophet, saying, The voice of one crying in the wilderness, Prepare ye the way of the Lord, make his paths straight. (5) Every valley shall be filled, and every mountain and hill shall be brought low; and the crooked shall be made straight, and the rough ways shall be made smooth; (6) And all flesh shall see the salvation of God. Luke 3: 3-6
