Kentucky Derby Fireworks Poem by richardo posto

Kentucky Derby Fireworks

The Kentucky Derby fireworks kick off the horse races

I parked the car in a supermarket parking lot a couple miles away

the crowds on foot up ahead

an airplane with a giant sparkler was flying around

throwing fireworks from the cockpit

a prolific display began above our city skyline view

I closed my eyes to sneak a little nap while the kiddies watched in excitement

A cool night breeze drifted the smoke towards us

The odor of a Chinese New Year rolled in the windows

The smoke of the magnificence soon dimmed all

but the brightest flower bursts

Then A meager finale ending, then quiet.

My ten year old gave the ultimatum that next time we Must

be closer.

I pulled out and began to drive home when an uncontrollable thunder for a lengthy couple of minutes startled me back to living

Fireworks filled my rearview mirror
