Khesht E Avval Poem by Nassy Fesharaki

Khesht E Avval

Khesht e avval

Once snake and snail in a farm
-befriended and spoke day and night
-they agreed on topic: "We crawl! "

"Why don't you break shell speed up? "
-asked serpent

"This is the foundation, "
-said snail

I was there, saw someone passing by
-whispering to friend:
-"Khesht e avval chon nehad meamar kaj…"
-stopped him listener and followed:
-"Ta sorray miravad divar kaj…"

I heard and understood what they said
-they spoke in Persian
-I agreed with content
-means to say:
"First brick if is set by mason,
-wrongly and crooked…
-crooked will go to Thuraya
-the built wall."

This is us and today
-our love, hate
-our terror-faith culture
-our disco and dances
-for a cool city girl
-fanatic, religious
-Old-fashion, out of date
-and our looks
-watching one another
-mistrust; suspicion,
-massive our enmity,
-friendship lost, scarce

All of these come because
-crooked has been set foundation
-among us and for us…
