Killing Childhood Poem by Pushpa Ratnayake

Killing Childhood

All surrounded me
shouting relentlessly
‘go.. go.. go'
I kept running
running andrunning
I have forgotten
beauty of the blossoms
rhyme of a breeze
feel of a drizzle
smiles of loved ones
‘focus on the goal'
‘you can do it'
they reminded me
day and night
I kept running
running and running
I reached their goal
all cheered
‘you have made it'
‘that's my boy'
exhausted
I looked back
all I left behind
like an alien
what I have missed
missed forever
what I have lost
lost forever
they made a man
killing a child
what is the worth of it?
never got an answer.
