Ladybirdfriend Poem by Sergio Savioli

Ladybirdfriend

LADYBIRDFRIEND

My ladybirdfriend is small and dark and modest
she ain't interested in fashion

She crawls about twitching her antennas
but we can't get no satisfaction

I think I'm her first her last her everything
I believe I'm her only passion

She doesn't give a damn for ephemeral things
like trends, TV, fake news, or sport

She's very focussed and single-minded
and doesn't much like to cavort

What I get up to on my tablet though
for her has become a bit of an obsession

One dark stormy night, a class six hurricane came
She up and went and disappeared
and I had to howl at the driving rain

POET'S NOTES ABOUT THE POEM
One day I was typing away at my tablet when I noticed this ladybird walking very intently on the top edge of the casing...

The ladybird was undoubtedly real. I did afterall see her and film her. The question though is this: Did I assess her presence and indeed the whole situation correctly. Was I sufficiently sensible? Perhaps I was swayed by deep feelings that are an intrinsic part of me, a part of my biological, social, hormonal conditioning...

You'll have to judge.
