Lamentations Poem by Chukwuemeka Ezeamalu

Lamentations

Has the heaven truly left the skies—?
Left my weeping eyes gazing with sighs?
If now, but once; fair thou would still be,
Revive my faith and set my heart free
Yore, 'twas this same spot I stood with you
Watched the colourful sky dimmed its hue.
We needed no lens to see the signs
Drawn in heaven with the bloods of saints
And as darkness fell, we wept for them
Our tears moved the sky to weep; serein.

Oh fit ears! I lament not in vain
And I speak not with joy but with pain
Of a sister you'd dare not to fight
With her by your side, you'd scale all heights
If memories could play gods, just once,
Actions will prove beyond words her force
Such you and I have no choice but fear
If in her furry, dare not come near
With a swift, her sword would enforced peace
Where men fought and couldn't keep their creese

We were two youths, who oft share a heart
Till life pressed its weight on us too hard
Push'd us lands far–apart regardless
We got just one heart; how merciless!
Heartless bloke on lands I did not choose,
Hopeless, on time and bereaved of news
Yet, cruelties of life cast their shadows
That dictate I learn trades in ghettos
Speak tongues only few could decipher
Yet, chose not to be a deceiver

Ogene sounds beat for my return
I caved in to its echoes in turn
But long, she'd left to walk with angels
Watching me weep and burning candles
In foreign lands, my fame outweighed words
As a warrior that stood guns and swords
Yet, not a whisper how she was better.
Though; wished she was with me to conquer
Lands and seas, princes and princesses
And see our bruises healed with kisses.

We had a brave mentor, our father
Now in heaven, team up together
As youths with him learning arts of war,
I would fight like beast and ask for more
But she learned first when to stop or fight
Sometimes I thought 'twas weakness or fright
But father called it intelligence
A game she mastered with diligence
And time has proved and been a witness
That skills would ever best bruteness

There were days I chose fight I'd had lost
But she ne'er left no matter the cost
Recalled times we had been outnumbered
Yet, she had the most feared foe battered
She's fair with vengeance as with justice
Some felt her great wrath without notice
Some embraced her knees and found mercy
I ask if in skies are stars worthy—
Of her galactic realm to shine thence
Or in haven's shores walk beauteous saints?

O sweetest and most loving sister!
It's now all tears and no fiesta
Beyond fight and above love, we're bless'd
You and I best the kids kings have dream'd
Made by the swift hands of our father
Cleansed in loving care of our mother
Clothed with skins not found easily
Grew as a united family
Surrounded by foes and loving friends
We vowed to life; 'to—ether till it ends'

A covenant breached by your passing on
But I vowed to hold my fate upon
As long as beauty, you're most precious.
As for compassion, you're most gracious.
As long as fair, you're my most righteous.
Speak now O heaven! Or lose your blue
I love you, I weep still and miss you
O sister Grace me signs to believe!
That the tides you rode with to beyond
Landed on the shores of heaven's stars
