Lamp Nostalgia Poem by Jean Malicsi

Lamp Nostalgia

In the olden days of yore
The lamps were very simple
Tin cans filled with kerosene
With knotted wick to produce a flame;

When each one was done with the toil for the day
Family members gathered at home contented they stay
Shared meals together lighted by a flame from the lamp shining
Each one no matter how young, had assigned chore after eating;

Happily finishing the task before the lamp runs out of kerosene
Before the night ends, they gather around the lamp again
Old folks entertained the young ones with story telling
Gently instilled life's lessons while they were passively listening;

Moths used to hover around the lamp as it glimmers
Not heeding the guiding hands to stay away from the flickers
After a while of enjoyment from the warmth and glitter
The moths quivered and the young ones saw how they died there;

The lamp of the olden days of yore
Were very simple but life was beautiful
Young ones heed the elders' guiding hands and wisdom
Because life's lessons was instilled by the story of the moths and the lamp.
