Lashing Out At Fate Poem by Richard Noggin

Lashing Out At Fate

Today I was struck by a man
His frustration was not caused by me
But instead from the lack
Of hope that he has
His wife lies in bed
Crippled from a disease called COPD

She gasps for each breath
Much like a fish out of water
She is aware of what is happening
And must suffer

Married 57 years
Best friends and
I am sure that she has been
The stabilizing force in their relationship
Most out spoken men, like Bill
Have someone that structures their life

It must be difficult
To watch that person suffer
A constant reminder that
Life will change
A reminder of your own mortality
And how helpless you are
To control
The world around you

I am sure that Bill hit me
Because he was unable to lash out
At his fate
