A fragile little puppy grew into a faithful friend,
You cared for her, and she cared, too, just as God would intend.
And all the doggy sounds she spoke had meanings all their own,
She smiled each time you told a joke, though others there might groan.
And there were twinkles in her eyes, like beacons bringing hope,
To comfort those who voiced their sighs was how she helped them cope.
And when she laid down by your feet, you knew she was content,
As evening came, the day complete, then off to sleep she went.
Fit as a fiddle, yes, indeed, first up at break of day,
Then, with the family, to feed, with sunshine on its way.
Throughout the years that Lassie lived, the family was glad,
Then God took home His precious gift, the best dog they once had.
Their faithful friend had done her part, as God knew that she would
Because she had a noble heart and did the best she could.
