Last Dance With The Racist Poem by Adegbenro Adekunle

Last Dance With The Racist

It was the world's best park
Beaming with best of white and black
It was the stage for the world's best dance
With people gathered like they were locked in a trance

The stage was void of rage
With every soul thirsting for the next page
The show was a full package
With every spectator sipping their beverage

The stage lightings were captivating
And the people countless
The dancers were bubbling
And the people were boundless

In no time, the stage was for all
With everyone dancing without a single fall
Whether black or white
Whether dark or bright

Suddenly, the light was gone
But with the music, the fun was still on
Suddenly, I had a dance partner
Who appeared suddenly like a frightener

We danced
Like penguins hugging after a decade of friendship
We giggled
Hoping to settle for a relationship

The lights returned
And suddenly my partner frowned
Saying he was irritated by my being black
With his utterance, all I can say is that he was in the dark
