Last Mountain Poem by Larxene (Larxy) Addesso

Last Mountain

She steps before the next one,
Fear building in her heart.
This one looks even harder,
She wonders where to start.
She doubts her recent victory,
“It can’t compare to this!
Why should I try?
Why take the risk? ”
Then she remembers the others,
The mountains she has climbed.
She’s never failed, not once!
She remembers every time.
But then she sees this one,
“It’s far too hard for me! ”
But she knows who’s watching,
He’s always on her team.
He takes her hand gently and places it on the stone,
He gives her a little push, and then leaves her to do it alone.
Fear whispers in her ear,
lies far too loud to ignore.
“You can never make it,
it was He who did it before! ”
She pushes herself up,
And takes a few more steps.
It’s getting hard to breathe,
Fear whispers “Not there yet! ”
She begins to doubt her strength,
She’s got so far to go.
Can she even make it,
and Fear begins to grow.
She struggles harder and harder,
It hurts more every step.
But than she hears His voice,
“Have faith and see how far you get”.
This voice she knows so well,
it’s His, she is sure.
Her courage is coming back to her,
it’s so much stronger than before.
She climbs a little faster,
she’s nearly almost there.
It hurts a little more,
but now she doesn’t care.
Her hand reaches the top,
and this is her favorite part.
When she sees Him waiting there,
love building in her heart.
His smile is in place,
as she grabs His fatherly hand.
He says “Welcome Home”,
and she sees the miles of land.
That was the Last Mountain,
she’s done, they’re gone, she’s free.
She looks back at Fear,
as it cowers away humbly.
She’s at her triumph,
but it’s not her last.
She’s rising up,
because she’s done with the past.
She’s reached her victory,
the last of the struggle is gone.
Now He takes her closer,
and says: “Let’s go beyond.”
